Production Blog: And so the Filming Begins!

This is it! Filming of my short film has commenced. After all of the hard work that me and my group have put into preparing this short film over the past couple of weeks, it is finally time to begin. Me and my group start by going to our film location to begin setting up and start getting used to all of our equipment. At first, it took at little while as I, as well as my group mates, was not accustomed to all the moving parts of a film set, but as things progressed I started to get the hang of things. Once we had finished setting up, me and my group changed into our costumes and prepared to film. We took a little time to discuss how we believed every shot should be taken and from what angles, but this did not take long. The filming of the first scene was then underway. As an actor, I got into my position and ran through my lines quickly in my head once more, and my groupmates did the same. Our cameraman got into position and did a countdown to let us know exactly when the film would begin. At first, a few mistakes were made as I forgot one of my lines or we were laughing when we had to be serious but we had a few good takes and chose the best of those. We often rearranged actors or changed camera angles as well in order to get the cleanest shot possible. It was a process of trial and error, but as we got through the first few shots, things began speeding up and rolling smoothly. Some shots were redone due to our own errors while others we just thought could be improved and reshot them for the best quality. It had been a couple hours of work but me and my group finally finished filming our first scene. We discussed all the clips we kept and decided which ones would most suit our needs. After this, we took off our costumes and packed up the set. This had concluded our first day of filming. It feels really good to get the first day out of the way so that I know what to do better personally and what we as a group can do better to improve our film and be overall more productive and efficient. There is obviously much more work to be done, but I, as well as my group mates, are excited to see where this project takes us.
