Production Blog: Beginning to Edit

     Today, me and my group began the editing process for my film. We were falling a bit behind schedule so we thought we jump ahead and get to editing early. I have finally finished the three scenes for the film and the goal today was to piece these together to make them transition properly and maybe begin to integrate sound effects and maybe start to add our music as well. I am using iMovie initially to edit my film but I am thinking of moving over to a more advanced software or editing technology later in the editing process. I started by adding all 3 scenes in order and trying to create a smooth transition between them that would not cause confusion. I achieved this simply by just making sure there was no delay between the scenes and ensuring that it was as seamless as a transition as possible. Next, I went over parts of scenes that I thought sound effects would help with the scene. I used a running sound effect as if the actors were running very hard to make the running seem more urgent among many other spots that I thought could use them. Lastly, I tried playing around with music and putting it over some of my earlier scenes. I could not really seem to get it to work though today, and I began to run out of time so I decided that I would try and mess around with it later. Overall though, I think it was a very productive day and I am glad I got started on the editing process early.

 Star Wars: The Last Jedi The movie that I watched was “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” it is in the Sci-fi genre. During the opening scene, all the people who helped with the production of the movie were included. In this is the casting designers, make-up artist, etc. The way these titles were printed on the opening scene was very subtle. This was good because I saw them, but they did not take my attention away from the background. There were a few different images in the opening scene. These images are not still but slightly moving. These photos are of all planets. This entices me to want to watch the whole movie. The images were all in space and had yellow writing in the background explain. This writing showed the past. As if it is setting up the movie by explaining the devastating things that have happened in the past. This is done extremely well as the images flip from one to one. First Scene-- Opening shot of an old man reading a newspaper in a hospital bed. Second Scene- Old man lowers paper to reveal his face with a sad expression Third Scene- Camera zooms out to show the old man in the hospital bed with his whole family surrounding him Fourth Scene- Close up shot of old man closing his eyes and the camera zooms in towards his closed eyes. Fifth Scene- We enter a flashback where his mom is holding him as a baby. Sixth Scene- Flashback of one of the man's first birthdays. Seventh Scene- Flashback to man playing catch with his father as a kid. Eighth Scene- Flashback of man getting his photo taken on the first day of school. Another day on the field

 On October 4th I began on the second day of filming now with the football. I had acted in all the scenes that had not been shot the days previous and added new scenes to help with the plot. The first scene I had gone back to act in was the scene where I kick the ball. I had stepped back into the position I was in the previous scene and ran up to kick the ball. This is where the scene cuts to the next scene. In the next scene it cuts to me running up to the ball at a different angle and kicking it toward the field goal post. I positioned myself differently in every new scene to create a different scene every time from which I can choose which one I like best to get the shots that looked best for the project. For example, in the scene where I am lining up to kick the ball, I had stepped back and lined myself up in about 5 different ways and chose which one I had liked best to give variation.
